About Us

CANDLISH McCLEERY LTD was established in 1975 with Ross as a founding director. After leaving Edinburgh in 1970 to pursue a career in stamp dealing, he learned the ropes in one of the then largest dealers in the country, based in Bristol. This gave him the opportunity to handle major collections and meet other knowledgeable dealers and collectors. He was also lucky enough to travel the world representing the company at various international shows.

In 2007 Chris (Ross' son) joined the company after completing his university degree.

Originally with offices in Bristol and now in Worcestershire CANDLISH McCLEERY LTD has operated predominately as a mail-order business dealing in the postage stamps of Great Britain 1840 to 1970 approx.

With a wide range of expert knowledge in Great Britain philately from Penny Blacks to Wilding Booklet panes CANDLISH McCLEERY Ltd would be more than happy to assist you with building your collection as well as valuations and selling.

With an emphasis on fine quality and knowledge, CANDLISH McCLEERY has built up a strong reputation especially in the King George V field with one of the few King George V reference collections cross-checked against those of Messrs. Stanley Gibbons Ltd and The Royal Philatelic Society, London.

We produce a yearly KGV-KGVI including QEII Stitched Booklets Price list as well as a Monthly Price List with new items and offers from stock (both available free upon request).

Please enjoy browsing through our stock online. We welcome any questions about items in stock, and if you cannot find something you are looking for, please get in touch, as we have many more items available (eg. Controls, Shades, Booklets, Booklet panes, etc). Wants lists are welcomed and we are always interested in seeing new varieties and discoveries. We attend regular stamp shows each year and are members of the Philatelic Traders Society (PTS).
